no pressure to make art a "certain way"

Birds and wishes is an online art group for teens

I give you a prompt - and you get creative

Each week I provide an art prompt designed for more self-exploration. Lots of the prompts come from conversations we have as a group!

Past prompts have been things like, "birds and wishes" (see photos next to this), "bottled up emotions," "possible lives," "in our villain era" and so many more!

I provide ideas - but how you use that idea is completely up to you.

no pressure to show up on video or speak

Come as you are, whatever that means

I believe it is hard enough to figure out who you want to be as a teenager. I think that making art in a community can help. I want nothing to stand in your way.

Some teens are on camera for our meetings, and some are not. Some speak, and many don't. Some type in the chat, and others skip that part. You get to decide what you're comfortable with and when.

with Roya Dedeaux

Licensed therapist, professor, and author.

As a therapist, I have thousands of hours of experience working individually with clients from all types of families. I particularly love working with teens and their parents who don't quite fit the mold -- whether it's due to homeschooling, neurodivergence, or ADHD - I love helping parents and teens identify and use creative tools to make their relationships, communication, and mental health even better.

I've spent my entire life making process art - starting with the mixed media journals I've kept since before kindergarten!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does it cost?

It's $97.95 per month. On average, there are 3 hours of meeting time a week - with 3 1 hour sessions. Some months will vary.

No sign up fee, no cancellation fee, no pro-rated fees.

  • Are sessions for parents or teens?

This group is for teens - but I have a similar online art group for parents as well! https://www.royadedeaux.com/groups for more details!

  • What age group is this for?

Teens and teen-ish people. That's a pretty vague range - on purpose. We have folks as young as 12 in the group, and some as old as 22. It really depends on other factors, just shoot me a message if you're wondering!

  • Do you take insurance?

Insurance won't pay for this group, sorry!

  • Is this group LGBTQIA+ friendly?

THE FRIENDLIEST! I kid you not, this group of teens just happens to be the most supportive, inclusive group of folk I have ever encountered. Without surveying them officially, I'd venture to say that roughly 90% of them identify as some sort of fluid/non-conforming/queer delightful human beings.

I will not allow bigoted content in this group - but I have never, ever had to speak to anyone about this.
